Rural Development

Towns like Barstow, Needles, and Helendale have deep histories and strong identities, but face underinvestment in everything from broadband to roads. At the same time, the region has enormous economic potential, from aerospace at Plant 42 to renewable energy projects and Route 66 tourism.

Rural communities are the heart of this district, but they’ve been treated like an afterthought for too long.

Barstow’s poverty rate is double the state average. Wells are drying up in desert towns as climate pressures increase. Students struggle to do homework because their internet cuts out. Too often, economic development bypasses locals entirely, shipping jobs elsewhere.

I’ll work to change that.

Expanding broadband to every home and business is step one. It’s a necessity, not a luxury. I’ll push for investments in water infrastructure, road repairs, and clean energy development that benefits locals. I’ll also support community colleges and trade schools that prepare students for jobs in industries like aerospace, solar, and logistics so our youth can build their futures right here. Rural development should empower communities, not leave them behind.
